The most prominent feature of cordierite ceramics is its ultra-low thermal expansion coefficient (1.5×10⁻⁶/℃), which is much lower than that of ordinary ceramic materials. This feature enables it to maintain dimensional stability in an environment with drastic temperature fluctuations, making it particularly suitable for use as a honeycomb ceramic carrier for automobile exhaust catalytic converters.
