Is alumina ceramic safe?

Fired or sintered ceramic alumina is generally safe in its solid state, with no known health hazards. However, when it is in airborne form, precautions are necessary. It is important to avoid breathing dust, as inhalation can cause irritation. Wearing appropriate dust masks or respirators is recommended when handling powdered alumina. Additionally, safety goggles should be used to keep dust out of the eyes. Alumina has a low free silica (quartz) content of less than 1.0%, which reduces the risk of silica-related health issues. The threshold limit value (TLV) for alumina dust is classified as a nuisance particulate, indicating it may cause minor irritation but is not considered hazardous.
